 Dynalite system can be configured, controlled and monitored so that all the lights and system components from any point of the network as well as generate system status reports.  The DyNet system is easier to install and takes less time to configure than conventional systems. The Philips Dynalite range of integration devices and network gateways allows the DyNet system to be configured to work smoothly with other systems.

The system is so intelligent that the lighting is only used when it’s needed. The natural light is harvested and additional lighting will adjust accordingly usually the natural light, this results in an optimized environmental performance and minimized operating and maintenance costs. The system also has a soft start and surge-limiting voltage, which protect the lamp, increasing the lamp life.

DALI Lighting Control with Dynalite

Dynalite is such a flexible and scalable system that it is the solution of meeting a high expectation of any project, as it is energy efficient with maximum integration using third part equipment for the complete management control. The system is built up out of individual components the solutions are scalable which can suit the client’s budget and function requirements. The different controllers and relays can be combined to suit the projects needs. The Dynalite system is made up of components the Load Controllers, The user control, the sensors, system integration devices that can use third party systems and the software that all connected by Dynet, these components of the Dynalite system all work together to become a living system.

 A Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) lighting system defines a network and controller as a universe. All light fittings in a project are connected together on the same networks. The DALI system assigns each light fitting a unique address, which allows a lighting control system a method to send instructions to individual light fittings and adjusting the levels. Each area can be broken up into logical groups to match the physical layout, this is for better energy management and performance. The DALI is a standard protocol to international electrotechnical commission (IEC). The DALI can also be used to communicate with sensors, switches, transformers and relay modules.  

There are some limitations to the DALI system, which shouldn’t be exceeded. A DALI universe can’t have more then 64 DALI addressable devices. The 64 light fittings on a single DALI universe can be divided up into 16 logical groups allowing the light to be coordinated together. The DALI network only has functional isolation between the active power and the DALI network. You can’t have multi DALI’s on the same network as it can over load the 250mA maximum.  

DALI ballast and transformers consume power even when the lamp is turned off which is the standby current consumption. When the lighting control system has instructed the ballast to turn its lamp off it will be in stand by mode ready for when its switch back on.

The three types of DALI lighting control are the DALI broadcasting, DALI addressing and DALI multi master. These types minimize the amount of cables required. The DDBC120-DALI is the control that is used in the DALI broadcasting system that controls all lamps together with twelve independently controlled outputs and individual configured. When you want your system to address all and group the lighting the DALI addressing setup is what you consider, using the DDBC320-DALI. The unit can coordinate three DALI universes allowing it to drive 192 DALI addresses. It is designed with a built in power supply and built in power replays for each universe that removes lamps stand by power consumption. The newest DALI controller is the DDBC120-DALI this allows you to full addressing, grouping and control on the DALI network via user interfaces such as sensors and dry contacts.

The DDBC120-DALI has the ability to control one full DALI universe that is 64 fittings as it is a group controller. It supports user interfaces connected direct to the DALI network. It allows multi master integration to Philips Dynalite DALI UIs so that sensors and dry input can use the same communication as DALI light fittings, The DDBC120-DALI can support up to 10 of these. This is a fully Dynet configurable device with an internal DALI power supply and 20A power relay.

Two DALI universes can be connected using the DyNet that will allow the DALI universes to behave as one seamless network. The grouping can be later on changed without touching the wiring. It has been created so that there is less network cabling. The DALI solution can be integrated directly into the Dynet network making it part of the system solution. The gateway can pass on the network messages received from the DALI network sensors to any other load controller. It’s a flexible and scalable system to suit any projects.

The operation of the Dynalite System

When the system is in operation the lighting control panels around the home provide control for the lighting groups and other relayed equipment in each immediate area. The Dynalite lighting control panels throughout the home are programmed to do more the activating the lights on or off. The touch screens are capable of controlling all areas around the home.

A DDNP1502 is a Dynalite network accessory, which utilises to supplement the network power supply, as the number of lighting control panel power requirement exceeds that supplied to the network by two load controllers. Lighting controllers such as a DDRC810DT-GL can be programmed to drive blinds either up or down by manipulating the outputs of the associated controller in the desired manner. A DDMC802 controller will allow Dynalite programmers to program the ceiling fans through the DDMC802. Four lighting control panel buttons are dedicated to the four settings High, Medium, Low and off.

Ducted and spilt air conditioning systems are both typically interface to the Dynalite control system through dry contract closure, this will use add on modules. A wireless touch screen can control all the equipment connected to the Dynalite system, displaying HTML pages of controls using a web page server does this. These pages are usually transmitted through the home wirelessly via the connected 3rd party wireless router.  

The system is so powerful that if you were to leave the TV on and the hall lights on and your lights on but you are already snug in bed no worries, all you need to do is press the goodnight button which can be programmed so that your entertainment systems turn off the blinds close, the hallway lights turn off and your light will dim slowly to off allowing enough time for you to settle in your bed.  

Dynalite the meaning of Luxury Home

The typical smart home includes several integrated systems that work together to provide convenience and security to the client.

The basic lighting control functionality allows different lighting scenes and moods by simple activation from a keypad, wired or wireless touch screen or remote control. These are moods like Welcome, Goodbye or Goodnight. Depending on the look you are going for there are different lighting sources to choose from such as LED, incandescent and fluorescent lamps. The smart home includes control of not only your lighting but also music and air conditioning even on the same lighting control keypad. The security system controls the drawing of the blinds and extinguishing of lights when armed. Other commands such as floor heating, irrigation systems and more can be controlled automatically through timers.

Different profiles can be programmed in your dynalite system, which can also be modified to have different members of the family. 

The rooms in your smart home can be controlled by dimmed lighting, the smaller the groups allow for more effective and efficient lighting design and control. In additional to the fundamental lighting the Dynalite system also controls other equipment such the ceiling fan, pool cleaners, floor heating and even heated towel rails through timers. Sensors assist in the control off activating lights and sensing when there is no one there. All these are nominated by the client to there nominated liking. 

Out with the old and in with the new controllers.

As the ability of technology is constantly improving, meaning there is always something newer and better the Philips Dynalite continually refines their range of products, which sometimes leads to some model numbers being revised. This means older models become obsolete and are in need of an upgrade. Which is recommended if your system is old or failing.  

The DDMC 801 is a common controller that has now become outdated and is being replaced with the DDMC 802. The 802 multi purpose controller is an eight-channel controller with a maximum load per channel of 2A. It is made to suit different types of loads such as dimmable electronic transformers, incandescent lamps, digital ballast, fan and curtain control. The DDRC1220 is highly recommended for use in residential and hotel or venue applications. It features a superior voltage regulation and soft start technologies that protect low voltage lamps and dramatically increase the lamp life.

Another common controller we are finding a lot of our clients who require updating is the DDRC1210FR, which we recommend the DDLE802 to replace it. The DDRC1210FR Relay Controller was used across venues to effectively control any type of switched load. The DDRC1220 is designed to control and type of switched load. The power circuit is a feed-through design and is electrically equivalent to a 12 pole contractor with the additional advantage of each pole being separately controllable via the DyNet network. Each channel is fitted with a hardware override switch which is accessible from just the front panel.

Antumbra User Interfaces - The new benchmark networked control panel

The Antumbra Keypad is one of Dynalite’s newest elegant user interfaces. They are already one of the more popular interfaces that are offered by Philips Dynalite. It is a stylish control intuitively interacts with your automated control systems. The Antumbra is a clever design with the engineering, which uses methods of interaction, construction, installation and aesthetics pushing the boundaries like no other keypad. It is a unique interface that has the ability to use the entire faceplate as control points with many features hidden within the smooth design. The range allows several finishes so it can suit any environment.

The Antumbra offers three types of interfaces, The Display which has a panel and a LCD display in the center, The Touch panel and the Button Panel. These options allow the clients have full control of their desired control system function. For all three different finish options are available for the face and rim of the panels, which you can mix and match to suit your home or office. The buttons can be engraved with words or icon and the customised labeling for these interfaces’ buttons are offered in English, Arabic and Chinese to excel in any language barriers.   

The Antumbra Display utilises mechanical buttons and an LCD display. This allows multiple pages of the functions and system to display the required control information. The Antumbra Touch has a smooth glass finish and uses capacitive touch technology to detect the presence of a finger on various locations of the glass to trigger the button-press action. Again utilising the mechanical buttons is the third type of antumbra­ interface, the Antumbra Button.

The built-in light sensor detects ambient light levels and ensures the wall-wash effect and button illumination activates at a comfortable brightness level. Each panel contains an integral temperature to be monitored at different locations throughout a building and avoiding the need for third-party BMS or HVAC sensors and controls. The design is two halves with the front façade, which is the buttons, rim, base and mounting plate and the second half the DACM which is the Communications module hidden behind. The programmable component within the DACM can be installed and commissioned first and the front can be installed later without the need of any further programming. Each façade option is compatible with the same communications module, allowing maximum flexibility during a project and for subsequent upgrades.
